Everyone's a Personal Trainer these days!

I've been a qualified Personal Trainer for over 12-years. I've been teaching fitness for a lot longer though, in Kickboxing and Boxercise.

I originally qualified so I could do fitness part-time outside of work hours, but, I was made redundant, couldn't find any work and so I took the plunge and turned my hobby into my business. I set up 'Fighting Fit Devon.'

You've probably heard my story before, so I won't bore you too much with it again, but looking back, what did I HAVE, or DO that set me apart from other PT's?

I suppose in the early days, it was all about 'fighting fitness' and that was my initial focus. A female PT who taught fighting was certainly a different approach back then, not so much now. I still say though, that kickboxing is one of the best ways to become fit, strong, flexible and self-aware.

As my experience grew, my business evolved, I still had a feeling that I had to keep it unique, special, and this has changed as I have.

The more I got to know my clients' wants and needs, the more I realised that it was less and less about physical help, but more to do with emotional wellbeing and wellness.

I used to say, my PT sessions were probably 50/50 - 50% actual fitness and 50% listening.

In sessions with clients I also share my own fears, troubles and worries, so that they know I am also human, I have off days, hormonal battles and life can get me down too sometimes.

More and more I realised that to do well with my clients, for them to have success in their journey, I had to give them a truly holistic experience of mind and body wellness, and yes, of course, I re-branded using this name, and I still think that this is unique and special to what I can offer.

Some people say to me, 'you do so many things!'
But, really, if you break it down, I'm just a wellness helper!
If your head isn't in the right place for good nutrition and exercise, I can help with this. Adding hypnotherapy to my wellness tool bag was one of the best things that I did.

I then hit peri-menopause myself, I worked on it, understood it (wrote the theme tune, sang the theme tune) wrote an online pack to help people and did a diploma in understanding menopause.

I am sure there will be more learning, I love to learn more, I recently attended a course to become a 'Mental Health First Aider' which will help me to provide a fully rounded mental health service to my clients, right from the start of trauma, or at least the first awareness of it, healing people more efficiently than before, when adding in hypnotherapy.

So..........do I offer something different?
Personal fitness training
Nutrition coach
Accountability coach
Hypnotherapist
Reflexologist
Menopause coach
Mental health first aider
Massage therapist

I am not defined as just one thing, but 'all the things' and you can be confident that if you come to me for help, you will have total mind and body wellness. You can't say that for a lot of gym PT's!

What makes you unique in your work role?
