ALWAYS follow your DREAMS (Life is short)

Image
I learnt a valuable lesson at a reasonably young age. My Dad passed away at the age of 54, and to coin the well-used phrase, 'that's no age.' In fact, in terms of my own life, that's only five years away. I don't want to be morbid in this blog, or at any other time, but I do want to justify, I suppose, why I think the way I do, and why I do the things I do. LIFE IS VERY VERY SHORT, we only get one go at it, and I don't want to be here for nothing! I want to make a difference IN MY LIFE, and I want to make a difference BECAUSE OF MY LIFE. I don't have a 'bucket list' because I'm realistic, I know that I can't do, or at the very least I can't afford to do all the things I would like, so I keep my challenges and dreams to a reasonable level, they have to be realistic and achievable. With this in mind, very recently I have started on another goal, another dream. Some of you may remember, way back, when I was Debbie Miller-Wright and lived i...

The places I've been.

I've had my business for over 13 years now, and, to be honest, I've worked in some interesting places during this time. I suppose we can go way back to when I just used to train people outside. I didn't get my first indoor venue, my own anyway for another few months. I was based in Totnes then and used Borough Park mostly, occasionally taking clients running around the Dartington Estate. I soon found clients in the Torbay area, spreading my outdoor gym activity into Paignton, at Goodrington sands and Broadsands beach. I loved working at Broadsands and spent many years on a Saturday morning there with clients. I love the ever-changing environment of the beach. On moving to North Devon I now use the beach at Westward Ho! and the quiet end of Instow. The sand is good for low impact work, but also makes it a little more challenging. The perfect workout! Sticking with my outside venues, I once took an Insanity live session in the ice, in the middle of winter, outside the rugby...

I've always loved to blog.

I started blogging way back in about 2010/2011, I wanted to document a 103 mile endurance run that I had planned on the SW Coastpath, and so every training run I photographed, and after the run I would sit down at my desk and tell my story. I love telling stories, I always have done. I've written an actual book too, called 'Running in Daddy's Footsteps' which you can find on Amazon under my author name, Deborah Wright. Blogging is the perfect way for me to tell very short stories that will hopefully bring more interest in my business journey. It's also a chance for me to express my creative side legitimately as part of the marketing process! So, I was recommended a book by my business coach, it's called, 'The little book of content prompts.' by Asha Clearwater. It's a wondrous little book and I've been using this every week now as the inspiration to these weekly blogs. You can use it for marketing posts etc.. but I found that it lent itself to ...

Workplace headspace

Working from home can be difficult for some, but I have been doing it for nearly fifteen years now. It's just a case of compartmentalising. I need an area to work from, a desk, and an area that I can transform into a virtual personal training studio at the drop of a hat! My old house was tiny, so it was really difficult, the dogs were ever-present, but they soon learned how to behave when I was training someone online. They actually learned so well, that in some of the stretch sessions they would start to get up, knowing that I would be finishing soon! Clever dogs. I have a much bigger space to work in now, and I can screen off the dogs into the other room leaving my sessions uninterrupted. My desk area is nice and light, a little chilly but I am also in the room where the woodburner is, so if I get cold I can light it, making my working space much more cosy too. The view from above my desk is of the Northam Burrows, and the beach beyond, we can even see Saunton Sands from here o...
