Excuses, excuses!
There's a reason I have a job, not everyone is self-motivated to exercise and eat the correct nutrition, some people need accountability to do it.
There are even some that fail, even with that accountability, they would rather lose money on a session with me instead of working out. Those people, unfortunately are the ones that really need to exercise for their health.
I have heard so many excuses from people over the years, never mind the blog, I could write a book about them. MOST of the excuses are just that, there is no valid reason behind it, they simply cannot be bothered. I find this really sad, and I hate to think how they will end up as they age, being overweight, inflexible, off balanced, hunched and taking many trips to the doctors for things that could be prevented with regular exercise and healthy eating.
INJURIES are a common excuse, "I can't workout today because I've hurt my toe!" Seriously, I've been given that as an excuse before. When you are injured you can still workout!
In fact, with a lot of injuries, movement of the injured part is essential in recovery, but it gets used as yet another reason to be lazy.
I want to tell you about one client who NEVER makes excuses, and she is a superstar because of this. One Christmas I was due to train this epic lady, she had a serious knee injury, so we would train everything else, not affecting the injured leg. When I got to her for the session she told me that she had been poorly, in fact, she had pneumonia! YEP! BUT, she was okay to do some low impact abs, core and resistance work, because she didn't want to miss her exercise session, she knows how much value it adds to her life.
I know, this is a rare thing to find in a person, but it goes to show, you can do some movement during sickness and injury, and it will help you get better.
I have a friend who had a life-changing injury through an accident when he was 16 years old. He didn't let it get the better of him. He is in a wheelchair, has had lots of other medical complications since the original injury but has not given up. Quite the opposite actually, he does Crossfit, and now runs Crossfit adaptive competitions for people with disability that can't compete in the usual competitions.
