The resilience of some of my clients is outstanding!
I love the word 'RESILIENCE' because it is hardcore - it means 'toughness,' 'the capacity to withstand or recover from difficulties,' 'spring back into shape.'
I am a personal fitness trainer, I have a job because not everyone is motivated enough to workout on their own. Although my clients are with me because of this very thing, they are also motivated enough to want to do it. Having me for accountability just makes them give up space in their busy lives to be able to exercise.
I reckon that 90% of my fitness clients are ridiculously busy people. Actually, scrap that, pretty much 100%, that's all of my clients have very busy and important jobs, big and busy families and a lot of stress. Some of my clients alongside this have outstanding illness and injury that they could use as an excuse to not exercise, but they don't.
Imagine having to get up at 6am every day, feed children, pets, walk dogs, sort out school issues, college issues, husbands and partners, go to work a full day, busy work stress, high powered jobs, teaching jobs that take over every waking minute, back home, do housework, more sorting of spouses, children and animals, then, fitting in an hour of exercise once a week with me, when they are clearly run-down, tired and stressed! This happens EVERY DAY, I see this in every client in varying degrees.
WHY do they put themselves through an hour with me every week? Well, consider what I've just said about the rest of their life, an hour with me is a breeze in my opinion!
They do it because it is their own hour to themselves to do something to keep them fit and well enough to be able to carry on with their busy lives. They see it as their duty to themselves to keep on track with their fitness goals.
I LOVE training these clients! There are never any excuses, not silly ones anyway, the occasional serious illness takes them out now and again for a short time, but then they are back with me for more.
This blog is inspired by one of my aerobics class members who is a carer for her poorly husband. She doesn't get a lot of time to herself, so she has to make the most of those free times and loves to come to my aerobics class for a dance, sing and giggle. So when she couldn't get to the class the other day due to sickness in the household, she did it virtually, with the aid of her friend's phone and a WhatsApp video call. She didn't make an excuse, she really wanted to be with us and took this opportunity to do it. It was certainly a unique experience. I work virtually all the time, just never in an 'actual live' situation. It worked, she loved it, and got her workout in.
So many would have used that as an excuse to not workout. But she is resilient and hardcore.
Over the years I have had clients training in the following ways and it still amazes me.....
- trained with pneumonia, and a busted knee at Christmas!
- trained almost all the way through her pregnancy, literally until about 3-weeks to go, obviously not full on hardcore but working out none the less.
- trained through a bad covid.
- trained through close bereavement.
- trained whilst on holiday.
- trains on every work trip away to different countries.
My clients don't make excuses, they workout, do themselves proud and make me feel proud of them.
Do YOU make excuses?
Reckon you are hardcore enough to train with me?
What's your story?
