Simplicity
This week I wrote about how getting rid of clutter from your home, can help you in the process of clearing your mind too.
We all have times in our lives when we give our homes, and even vehicles a good old clear out. And mostly we feel amazing afterwards, looking at our cleared surroundings in a more positive light. We feel like we are starting again.
What if we kept our homes uncluttered except for essentials all the time? Surely that would mean we could obtain peace of mind all the time too? Or at least give us a good grounding for it?
I'm not saying empty your house of all that is treasured, keep your favourite cushions, keep drinking from your beloved mug, but get rid of the things you no longer want or need. If you haven't seen it or used it for a long time, do you really need it? Can you do without additional materialistic items?
We fill our lives with belongings, material items sometimes to fill in the gaps where we are lacking emotionally. I've never been one for retail therapy, a long run does the same job for me without having to spend any money. So if you are regularly spending money online on things you don't need, have a think. Are you doing all the things in your life you could be doing? Are you lacking meaning? Challenge? Adventure?
Start filling your life with experiences rather than shopping, meet friends and talk instead of spending money. Go back to basics in terms of what we need in our lives as humans. When we spend time outside, meet friends, have gatherings, work, exercise, share exciting meals, those are the things that help with happiness and longevity. More of that needs to happen.
Clear your house slowly, one drawer or cupboard at a time, slowly putting your house and mind back to rights. You will find it really does make a difference.
