Take time out, to just sit, and contemplate.
How often do you take time out to just sit, and contemplate?
What would you contemplate? Your past, present or future? Fears or joys? What does contemplation mean, to you? To me?
Firstly, to have a proper think, you have to sit, you have to be in a restful position, otherwise your brain is still using it's subconscious to move. You need to take all other action away from your mind, and you can only do this by resting.
Today, this blog is more of an exercise that you can do, you don't have to do it every day, but I think at least once a week is healthy for you.
BEFORE you start, write down anything that you need to do, write a shopping list, a 'to do' list, write down important things that need to be done in your life, empty them from your head and onto paper, you then don't have to think about them while you do this exercise. Put the list or lists in a safe place to come back to after, but for now, write down everything you need to remember.
NOW, sit. Be comfortable. If you are one for cushions and a cosy throw, do it, get cosy and feel relaxed. If you do nod off in this time of contemplation, that's not a bad thing, because it means that you have rid your mind of worries and are in a place of true relaxation.
Now that you are comfortable, close your eyes and let your mind wander. It can go anywhere, this is a time for your subconscious to deal with things with you. It may go to a problem that you didn't write down, so this may be your time for solving that problem, it doesn't make you less relaxed, you have already written down your other urgent issues, so maybe you have been putting this one off, or your mind has not had the space or time to deal with it before now. This is now the time to do that.
You may wander off into a land of fantasy. This is usually my 'go to' when letting my thoughts free. I dream about my future, make little plans of things I want to do, places I would like to visit, and experiences that I can take part in over the next few months. It's my dreamtime, but using my waking mind, a daydream if you like.
Wherever your mind takes you, allow time to complete the wanderings, don't get back up again with things unresolved, so when you do this this exercise, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time, an hour or so. And I know that we are all very very busy, but taking time to do this could save you a whole heap of stress in the future.
Now it's your turn, have a go, but don't forget to write down any worries or chores first, so that you can contemplate deeply with a fresh and uncluttered mind.
