Excuses, excuses!

Image
There's a reason I have a job, not everyone is self-motivated to exercise and eat the correct nutrition, some people need accountability to do it. There are even some that fail, even with that accountability, they would rather lose money on a session with me instead of working out. Those people, unfortunately are the ones that really need to exercise for their health. I have heard so many excuses from people over the years, never mind the blog, I could write a book about them. MOST of the excuses are just that, there is no valid reason behind it, they simply cannot be bothered. I find this really sad, and I hate to think how they will end up as they age, being overweight, inflexible, off balanced, hunched and taking many trips to the doctors for things that could be prevented with regular exercise and healthy eating. INJURIES are a common excuse, "I can't workout today because I've hurt my toe!" Seriously, I've been given that as an excuse before. When you a...

Men's mental health month.

Image
Alongside 'Movember' raising awareness of the mental health of our gentlemen, we also support men's mental health in the month of June every year, which, I believe started in America. Some people may think that my business is mainly based around helping menopausal women, but not so, in fact, behind the scenes of social media I have a few male clients who come to me for hypnotherapy and talking sessions too. Men generally don't discuss their mental health issues with the ease that women do, talking gets things dealt with, problems can be worked on, help can be sought and eventually, a positive life plan can be put into place. The male clients I have seen for hypnotherapy have gained so much more from their lives since their sessions, and in some cases the sessions have loosened their tongues enough for them to talk to their friends and family too, about the mental battles that they face. The thing is, there is so much help out there, and available, but one size does no...

Money - how not to offend or feel offended.

I am VERY VERY English when it comes to the part of my business that pays the bills, keeps us in food and electric, and I find it very difficult to raise the discussion when it comes to payment. This may be due to the fact that I love my job, so payment is definitely a secondary thought, but it should be my primary as a business owner. I signed up with a wonderful business coach last year, Tracey Baum, who helped me see my worth and also charge what I should be charging, but as she will testify, trying to get me to do this was difficult. It doesn't help that my business is very varied, and I not only cover North Devon, which is quite poor in contrast to the likes of London, and also that I work both virtually and in person. So, reasonably what I would charge in North Devon for Personal Training would be less than what I would charge in a city on virtual.  Would I be better having lots of clients paying less than less paying more? And to be honest, no I wouldn't. Changing the...

Fat Shaming, or caring?

Image
This week's blog is on a subject I did a little TikTok video about on Monday. I have had people comment time and time again to me on how I am (in their eyes) 'FAT SHAMING' every time that I tell a client that they need to eat less and move more. These people have forgotten that my clients come to me for help because they feel they need it and want to improve their health, and telling people this, is MY JOB! People were never obese, the current lifestyle lead by the majority I believe involves sitting down for work, social media, television and processed convenience foods, this has lead to overweight, tired and apathetic individuals who spiral in these behaviours. Growing up in the 1970's and 80's there was an 'occasional' or some may say, 'token fat person!' I am going to hell for that comment I am sure, but it's true and that's how we spoke about it back then, no messing about, straight to the point and something was done about it. In the ...
