Nostalgia!
TODAY would have been my wonderful Dad's Birthday, he would have been 78 years old, sadly he passed away at only 54 years old, from a brain tumour. He was ridiculously fit, ate well, did all the good things, but sadly that didn't stop him from getting poorly.
NOW, that doesn't mean, 'well I may as well do all the bad things if that can happen!' It doesn't work like that. You STILL need to do ALL the good things, good nutrition, exercise, proper sleep, laughter, all the things. Then you can guarantee a quality life, no matter how long it is.
THIS week on my MINDFULNESS MONDAY post on social media, I spoke about nostalgia. It was my husband's birthday on Monday, and I was also thinking of my Dad's birthday too. Then it got me thinking about birthdays in the past, how they were celebrated, and all the fun we had. I like to visit the past from time to time, I don't like to live there, to dwell there, but I like to remind myself of the good things, and also the things I have learned from. But as I said, I only visit, it's more healthy that way.
NOSTALGIA comes in many forms. On a Saturday I have my own radio show now on The Voice 2 in North Devon. This is a station that plays music from the 60's 70's and 80's, music I grew up with. This obviously invokes many memories, feelings, events from my past, and so far it's all been good and happy. I had a very happy childhood I am glad to say, and the memories from that have carried me forward in life with a positive attitude towards things. Last Saturday I played 'Zoom' from Fat Larry's Band, and immediately I was taken back to Wales, in my Aunt and Uncle's house with the sweet shop, we were visiting and Top of the pops was on, and this came on. Music can transport you back to the best places, and the worst too, so make sure you always go back to the good ones.
AS good as nostalgia is in our lives, we must not forget how to look forward, and to live in the present. Enjoy the moments you are in right now, because they are your future nostalgia, make the present count, plan a happy future, because that will be the past too, for you to look back on a smile.
WHAT I am saying is, don't live in the past, don't dwell on things that have happened because you cannot change them. You can learn from them, move on, and make a bigger and better future, because, as I always say, you only live once, you have to make every second count.
BIG happy birthday to the man who influenced me so much in looking after my body and my mind, for looking forward with a positive attitude and never giving up. Happy Birthday Daddy.
