The importance of your feet.
WHY on earth are you writing a blog about feet?
I'm a reflexologist, who has, for years also been a ballet dancer and ultra-marathon runner. I look after other people's feet, and have seemingly tried to ruin mine!
This post was again inspired by my 'Mindfulness Monday' post on social media this week. I was reading about Zen Monks, they never wear shoes, they are always barefoot. They believe that this helps their health and spares them from serious illness. And I guess it seems to be working for them?
FEET are neglected by many people.
They are way away from the rest of us, right down there on the floor, covered in socks and shoes, never to be aired unless on holiday or in the garden in the summer. I always hear this, 'I hate my feet,' or, 'I hate feet!' I find this weird, because why on earth would you 'hate feet?' Ask any amputee whether they would rather have feet or not and I am sure that you know the answer, so why 'hate' the very thing that keeps you walking around all day?
As a reflexologist I know more than most the connection between our feet and our health. The importance of looking after our feet, alongside the rest of our bodies is huge. Our feet show us the true nature of the status of our health, are our kidneys functioning properly? Do you have smoker's lungs? Even the health of our baby-making bits!
If you can't afford to see a reflexologist, you can massage your own feet, or if you really HATE FEET that much, get your self a little foot massage mat, wash, dry, moisturise and nurture your feet, let them have fresh air when it's not too cold, walk on the earth, sand, in the sea, on the grass, let nature envelop them, walk heel to toe slowly, stretching out the plantar fascia, dunk your toes in the sea or a stream, but celebrate them! Celebrate the fact that you have feet every single day, and be grateful for what they do for you.
I know this is a bit of a weird blog today, but I do get so fed up with people moaning on about how horrible their feet are, and how they ignore them. Maybe if you took some time to get to know your own feet, you may start to like them, and particularly when you realise just how important they are to the rest of your health.
So from now onwards, embrace your feet, worship them (there are some out there that may do this for you! haha) and treat them with the most kindness that you have to offer, use essential oils and massage your feet. You will notice a change in your overall health if you do this.
And of course, find yourself a good reflexologist!
Let me know how you care for your feet.
