THIS week, I am blogging about my Birthday, I was fifty on 20th January, and I had a few moments of celebration, because, after all, it's a big number!
Coming up to my birthday I was pretty cool about the whole thing, ah it's okay, it's only a number, I feel good, I'm fit and well, lots of life ahead of me, and then yesterday, on my actual birthday it hit me, actually, 50 IS a BIG number!
I was out cycling, thinking about the day, and I suddenly thought, if someone told me they were selling an item, say a car, or furniture and it was fifty years old, I would think twice about it, except if I thought it could be classed as 'vintage!' Am I vintage? It gave me a little scare for a moment, and then I realised that I was out in the fresh air, cycling as though I was as fit as I was when I was in my 20's, but actually, I'm even fitter than I was then, so I should get these silly thoughts out of my head. But it did happen, the moment when I realised that I am getting older, whether I like it or not! I just have to look after myself even better, and live for every day.

MY birthday consisted of a few parts really. When my friend Bryony originally asked me what I was going to do to celebrate my birthday, I didn't have a clue, so I joked that I would have a party outside on our land, in the middle of winter, of course, and we should dress as sausages and eat sausages! I turned that joke into reality and we had a 'sausage party!' We lit a campfire and cooked sausages over a griddle pan, friends turned up from all over the place, even as far as Portsmouth! We drank tea, laughed, listened to music from the year of my birth and had an amazing afternoon. Part number one was amazing.
That evening my Mother-in-law came round and I was given presents, from her and two of my step-children, because I wouldn't be seeing them on my birthday. It was wonderful and I have been spoiled!
PART 3, was sort of birthday-related, my husband took me out for a lovely meal in Westward Ho! he always spoils me anyway, but it was lovely to finish the weekend this way. The weekend was over and fifty was looming closer than ever!
THE big day! Food shopping, washing, dusting and cleaning! Yep! Still has to be done even on your birthday, but I raced through it because my special treat to myself was going to be a trip out to Hartland Point with the dogs.
THE four of us has a great time on the coastpath, looked at the views, saw the lighthouse (my favourite place) and breathed in the wonderful fresh sea air. This is how you celebrate fifty years on the earth, this is why. I always find that I am charged up, revitalised from being outside, I've always loved the great outdoors, no matter what the weather, but the weather was great anyway. I'm not one for expensive holidays and material things, although to be fair I got some great presents for my birthday, but just celebrating the way I wanted to, to have that freedom of choice was great. I also got to have a good catch up with my Mum on the phone, because, after all, if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here!
The day continued with a little cycle ride, I got to see my best friend Sarah, who I have known for pretty much all of my life, and then back for another sausage dinner and some more presents from my husband. And we get to continue the celebrations in February because he got tickets to see Seth Lakeman at Exeter Cathedral for us! What an absolute legend of a husband!
So, that was my birthday, that was fifty! And now I have a list of fifty things to do this year that I have never done before, from eating lobster, to riding a jetski! I may not accomplish them all this year, but it's something to work on.
I finished my day with a cake that I made, sugar-free, no carb, and it was epic! Who says I don't know how to treat myself eh?
How would you celebrate your fiftieth year?
