Do you have to wear purple to be a witch?!

Today is the penultimate blog as part of 'Wellness Wisdom' month, and I am going to discuss the fakes!

As you may have read in my other blogs this month, I have dabbled a bit in helping people under the guise of 'village witch' not self-called but by others for a bit of fun.

Helping people with their mental and physical health doesn't make you a 'witch' it makes you a kind healer. There is a big difference.

I used to go to 'Witchfest' and other such events, because you could usually get some great clothes and incense there! And there is always an array of (mostly) women there, dressed in purple, being all witchy! Wearing pentagrams, various floating layers of clothing, dark eye make-up, mostly looking a bit too serious about themselves. And yes, I know I am generalising, but that's what people do eh?

I hold my hands up right now and say that I was one of them, a 'purple-wearer!' I too wore a pentagram, I had a fine collection of ethereal clothing and still do in fact. But I practiced what I preached. It's like the weekend cyclists that have all the gear on and the old saying 'all the gear, no idea' there was a lot of that amongst the women at these events.

I was pleasantly surprised when I attended the 'World record for the amount of witches all gathered together in one place' attempt in Exeter a few years back. It was a bit of a piss-take really I think, but to make the event work everyone who claimed to be a witch had to 'dress as a witch!' Well, in theory, anyone who is a witch and puts clothes on is dressed as one, but you know what they meant, dark clothes, capes, pointy hats and broomsticks! It did make a bit of a mockery of it all but it was a fun day and I met some really great people, some wearing purple!

This blog is mostly about unnecessary and ridiculous labels. I am not a fan of labels as you may have read in my previous blogs. Everyone is an individual, you are you, no label required, no matter what colour you are, religion, sexual orientation, nutrition choice, you are just a person like the rest of us. Wearing purple and a pentagram necklace doesn't make you a witch, you just have a style choice different to 90% of other people!

Now if you are reading this and getting annoyed at me, crack on, as I said, I was a purple-wearer myself at one time in my life, I don't now as it does nothing for my complexion, you have to be a certain kind of skin tone to carry it off! But just be, whatever it is you want to be and do, just do it, but don't put a label on it or yourself. Have many things about you and enjoy them all!

Next week is the last of the Wellness wisdom blogs and I shall be writing about the festival of Samhain itself, so keep a look out for it.

Blessed be........
