Season change

Today has felt like Spring! It has been full on sunny all day (with the exception of those naughty cloud-spreading planes kicking about) I have dried my washing out in the fresh air, did yoga outside and soaked up some natural vitamin D whilst walking the dogs. My mood is elevated, my lungs are pure and my face feels warmed by the sun. What an amazing feeling!

The season change from winter to spring is the most noticeable I think, because you can see people go from full on winter misery, to smiles when the sun is out. More people stop and say hello, the weather comments are that of joy, the mood is positive, the sight of spring flowers coming up gives us hope of lighter days and summer coming.....eventually!

We are all affected by season change, some more than others, I tend to be a person who notices things, whether it be my mind and body, or nature, I'm pretty in tune. I notice energy changing, sleep patterns switching, I tend to wake up when it gets light, which means pretty early in the summer but in the winter I do tend to hibernate away and long for early nights.

Season changes affect our mental health, in the winter, some are affected by seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and in the spring the mood can naturally elevate when the sun comes out again. The move from Autumn into winter can lead to feelings of depression, which is completely natural, you just have to find ways of managing it by eating well, exercising and getting proper sleep.

In the winter, our immune systems are more compromised, we don't get enough natural vitamin D, this leaves us more open to colds and other nasty viruses. Taking a vitamin D supplement in the winter could help with this, but also make the most of the days when the sun does shine, get outside and get some on your face.

Some people are affected by allergies, so spring isn't so much of a joy to them! The tree pollen is already kicking about, the early pollinators are showing their shiny yellow faces for the early bees and particularly this year as the weather is so mild, the grass is being cut by some. All of these things are a sign of season change, of moving through the wheel of the year.

We all have a favourite season, but I know that I love seeing all the changes happen, no matter what season we are transitioning to and from, my favourite visually has to be autumn, the colours are amazing when the leaves change, but I love spring for it's wild garlic and yellow flowers.

What season is your favourite, and why? I would love to know! Get in touch........
