My time as a wise one.

I am continuing today with 'Wellness wisdom' month, the theme of learning the old remedies and ways to help our mental and physical health.

I spent time being called a 'Village witch' when I lived in Surrey, and in particular in a village called Brockham from 2000 to 2003.

The photo above was taken in 2001, it's me in Cornwall with my dog Blue and at the time I was also looking after my friend's Doberman, Keefer. I was sitting outside in the January sunshine in this photo just after visiting with Cassandra Latham-Jones. I was staying in St. Buryan for the weekend and took the chance to go and see what a 'real' village wise-woman does.

Cassandra was a wise-woman at the time but has since retired, and she helped me along my journey, and mostly helped me feel not so weird and outcast about what I did. Some people say that they are a witch just to get attention, 'oh look at me! I'm a weird witchy type, it's all about me!' Well, that isn't me, but helping people is.

Armed with more knowledge from Cassandra I continued on my wise journey, helping many people along the way, I recently found my 'Book of shadows' from that time and re-read all that I had done, and remembering people I had helped and forgotten about. And I did some weird things back then!

We would celebrate the Solstices where I lived with a party and bonfire in the field, the neighbours would come and we would drink mead and cider and mulled wine in the winter. Even my Mum and Dad would come, when my Dad was still with us, and my Mum is Christian, but still came along to celebrate the season with us.

When I moved to Devon, I took with me everything I had learned and set up in a new village, Malborough, South Devon. I did similar things in helping people, by reading cards, making herbal teas and tinctures, and the same again when I moved to Totnes and was named the 'pub witch' for a time too.

But the title doesn't sit right with me, I'm not a witch, I just like to help people when I can, so I use my qualifications now to do this.

I mean, it's the same thing isn't it? But way more varied!

So this blog was meant to be about my time as a 'wise one' but it's never ended, it's just changed, as have I.

Try not to label yourself, you just box yourself in too much, it doesn't allow for growth.

More 'Wellness Wisdom' next week and until October ends. Thanks for reading.
