Easter holiday
I have always been a massive fan of Easter, and not just because you got chocolate eggs!
Although, there is something about Easter egg chocolate that makes it taste better than any other chocolate, just my opinion of course. I don't eat Easter eggs anymore, not for over 3 years, because I am refined sugar-free so I can only delight in the watching of others eating them!
Most of the reason why I have always loved Easter is sadly, and much to my Mum's disappointment, nothing to do with the Christian faith either, although there was always something poignant about the Easter services I used to attend as a chorister. Especially the Maundy Thursday service, also known as Holy Thursday, the day of the last supper. The wonderful golden picture screens by the altar would be folded in, leaving a dull green backing, making the lively vivid nature of the altar bare and miserable. Which, I suppose was entirely the point.
I also remember the Good Friday procession of witness, where all the local church-goers would walk from their local place of worship, head into Redhill where all would gather for a service. It was a great day from what I remembered and we would always come home and have hot cross buns!
Although I don't follow the Christian faith, this is how I grew up, and there are far worse ways to grow up in my mind, and I suppose those memories stay with me, making Easter a happy (hoppy) time. Not forgetting a new hat for Easter Sunday, and I do love a new hat!
Whatever your belief is, the Easter Holiday is just another good way for friends and family to gather together, share food, laughter and stories, and it's a positive time because of the spring-season. The days are lighter, the weather much improved (except for those years we had snow at Easter growing up!) the blossom and flowers in abundance, making the world seem more positive than it had done in previous months.
And my personal favourite memory of Easter in recent times involves meeting Ryan, my now husband, because it was due to a charity Easter car wash that I was in North Devon and able to meet him for the first time. In fact, I had only just taken off my chicken outfit before meeting him. The Easter spirit of love was in the air and now feel it only appropriate to wear that chicken outfit every year!
I am taking the Good Friday and Easter Monday off work this year, I am, of course doing my radio show on the Saturday, but I am taking a little time to myself to re-group, because, even I need a day off sometimes!
Whatever you are doing this Easter, don't overindulge in chocolate, you've only got to work it off again, enjoy the sunshine, enjoy your friends and family and most of all, be positive about the future. Have a great time.
